I hate to fly, especially these days, but the trip over was kinda interesting. It was the first day of summer and we were far enough north that it never really got dark. I was on the left side of the plane, facing Greenland, and there was a red glow along the horizon, even at midnight. By 1:00 AM, the sun was up.
I slept in Frankfurt and then drove to Bielefeld the next day. I checked into the Landhaus Droege, run by Harold & Rita Droege. I tried to be friendly but they don't like Auslanders, so the relationship has been cordial, at best. But, the view was nice.
Now you have the image of a sunny summer day. Well, usually it rained. When it was done raining, it rained some more. Then it cooled off and set into a nice steady rain. Several days in June & July did not get out of the 50's (Fahrenheit!). I hear that this is fairly normal for summer weather. In fact, many areas of Germany have been flooded; similar to the Mississippi floods, 9 years ago.
I know that some of the folks back home have been complaining about the heat. Well, on this side the grass is definitely greener. But I miss the unbearable heat. To me, that's what summer is all about. Beer weather!
Here's the room.
Most of the time was spent at work, including four 65 hour weeks in a row, near the end. Fortunately, the guys I work with are great. And I am proud to be a member of the team. Were it not so, I would never have signed on.
I don't have a picture of Eckhard Becker. He invented electricity and, besides that, he is a great human being. He is also the co-author of the new hit song "Wading with the Wett Wurms".
